What makes Baan de Sol unique?

Baan De Sol is special because our fabrics aren't mass-produced but carefully handcrafted in Thailand, creating a unique and beautiful story connected to the makers. We empower two communities – DV women in sewing and the Karen Tribe weaving community – and proudly operate as a woman-owned business. Beyond just aesthetics, Baan De Sol shares the often unheard stories of its makers, making every purchase a meaningful choice. By supporting them, you're not just buying from a small business; you're actively contributing to positive change in the world. It's a simple way to make your home beautiful without compromising on ethics – that's what makes Baan De Sol truly unique.

Where are the products made?

Baan De Sol products are designed by our Founder, Angela, in Portland, Oregon. The handmade magic, however, happens in the northern regions of Thailand, where skilled artisans bring these designs to life with a touch of craftsmanship that sets Baan De Sol apart. In every Baan De Sol product, you'll find a perfect blend of Portland's creative energy and the expert craftsmanship of Northern Thailand. It's the best of both worlds coming together in each piece.

Who are Baan de Sol partners?

Baan De Sol partners with two impactful groups: an organization providing support to women seeking refuge from domestic violence, and a small artisan family from the Karen tribe in Northern Thailand. By collaborating with these partners, Baan De Sol not only creates beautiful products but also contributes to meaningful social impact, supporting women in need and preserving the rich traditions of the Karen tribe.

Care

How do I care for my products?

As our products are handmade, we highly recommend following our care instructions below:

  • Handwash gently in cold water using a mild detergent.
  • Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals that could damage the fibers.
  • Do not wring or twist the fabric, as this can cause stretching and distortion.
  • Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze out excess water.
  • Hang the textile to dry in a shaded area, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Iron on a low heat setting while still slightly damp, using a pressing cloth if necessary.

How do I wash my items?

For products with tassels and fringes, we recommend hand washing with cold or lukewarm water to prevent any damage. If machine washing, use a mesh bag (1 item per bag) and delicate setting. Wash separately or with like colors as some dyes may run in their first few washes.

What detergent should I use?

We recommend using a gentle, pH-neutral liquid detergent. Natural and delicate-specific may also be used. Do not use chlorine bleach and avoid fabric softeners & conditioners.

How should I dry my product?

Hang drying is the best method, especially for items with fringes and tassels. If machine drying, we recommend using the lowest heat / delicate setting and using a mesh laundry bag (1 item per bag).

Can I iron my items?

Iron at low temperature if needed. For best results, iron while fabric is slightly damp.

What should I avoid when caring for my product?

Avoid contact with products containing benzoyl peroxide, alpha hydroxy acids and chlorine bleach as these will stain and/or discolor the fabric.
